La storia dell'officina Bernardi inizia nel 1948.
A quell'epoca Walter Bernardi inizia a la-vorare come apprendista
presso l'officina fabbrile di proprietà della famiglia Demenego
(Kaiser), molto nota per la lavorazione dei metalli.
Bernardi rimane dipendente in quell'officina fino al 1959, anno
in cui, "dopo aver ap-preso i trucchi del mestiere", decide
di ini-ziare a lavorare in proprio.
Associandosi al Consorzio Artigianato Artistico Ampezzano di Cortina.
Continua quest'attività fino al 1964, quando, in collaborazione
con un socio, inizia la cos-truzione dei bob da pista, e per primo
in-troduce il bob con lo snodo, accorgimento che permette di far
adattare il mezzo alle piste in maniera ottimale. In quegli anni
Cor-tina è l'unica produttrice di bob al mondo, e Bernardi,
sebbene impegnato in questa nuo-va attività, si dedica anche
alla produzione di articoli in ferro battuto.
Nel 1977 scioglie la società per la costru-zione dei bob
e riprende autonomamente a lavorare i metalli, forgiando il ferro,
l'ottone e il rame. Con questi metalli riesce a creare oggetti molto
curati ed eleganti, per l'arreda-mento di interni ed esterni.
Nel 1977 anch'io inizio ad aiutarlo e ad ap-prendere quest'arte,
bella e creativa, e colla-boro con lui fino al 1996, anno nel quale
va in pensione.
Nel proseguire l'attività, ed avendo appreso da lui i segreti
della sua arte, continuo a dare le più svariate forme a freddo
e a caldo al ferro, all'ottone e al rame, lavorando, natu-ralmente,
soltanto a mano.
Adoperando la forgia, l'incudine, il maglio e gli altri attrezzi
indispensabili per questo tipo di lavorazione, posso curvare i metalli,
attor-cigliarli, sbalzarli e inciderli in maniera da renderli molto
eleganti e ornamentali.
Dall'officina escono oggetti per l'arredamen-to sia d'interni che
d'esterni, lavorati in ma-niera sobria e leggera: lampade a stelo,
da comodino, da parete, lampadari, attrezzi per il caminetto, inferriate,
cancellate e ferramen-ta per porte, finestre, e armadi.
Ogni articolo è lucidato, anticato o brunito a discrezione
del cliente.
Gli oggetti martellati e bruniti, una volta lucidati o spazzolati,
acquistano delle ombre che li rendono molto particolari.
Le mie idee e quelle dei clienti vengono ab-bozzate, disegnate e
sviluppate, per la rea-lizzazione di oggetti dalle forme più
varie.

The history of the Bernardi workshop begins in 1948.
That year Walter Bernardi begins to work as ap-prentice in the workshop
of the Demenego iron-worker (Kaiser), a well-known name in the metal
working.
Mr. Bernardi works for them until 1959, and being experienced and
skilled enough, he de-cides to open a workshop of his own.
Being associated to the Consortium Artistic Handicraft Ampezzano di Cortina.
He keeps working until 1964, and afterwards, together with a partner,
he begins the planning of track-bobsleighs, being the first to introduce
the jointed bobsleigh, to better fit the various tracks. At that time
Cortina is the only worldwide bob-sleighs' producer, but, notwithstanding
the new business, Mr.Bernardi, keeps-producing wrou-ght iron articles.
In 1977 he breaks up the partnership and de-votes himself to his main
concerns, moulding iron, brass and copper. With these metals he is
able to forge extremely elegant and fine objects, to furnish the houses'
interior and exterior.
In 1977 I begin to help him and to learn this wonderful and creative
art, working with him until 1996, the year of his retirement.
Having learnt by him the various secrets of the metal working, I keep
the business going, and through the cold and hot-working, I try to
give the metals the most various shapes, producing only handmade articles.
Using the forge, the anvil, the mallet and all the other
needed tools for this kind of working, I can bend, twine, emboss and
engrave the metals to make them very elegant and ornamental.
The workshop produces articles for the interior as well as for the
exterior, in a sober and light style: floor lamps, table lamps, wall
lamps, chan-deliers, fireirons, gratings, gates, iron mongery for
doors, windows and wardrobes.
Each of them is polished, made older or burni-shed on the customer'
s discretion.
The hammered and burnished objects, after being polished or brushed, gain
shadows which make them extremely special.
My ideas and the costumers' are sketched, drawn and developed, to carry
out items of the most various shapes.
